CVA or Stroke
What an awful injury. Typically half your body is affected and the unaffected half has to compensate. That can lead to a variety of complications that are almost as bad as the injury itself. The key here is to prevent all the possible complications light frozen joints, frozen shoulders, contractions, falls, fractures, osteoporosis, decubitus ulcers, etc.
I learned a great deal about stroke care when a family member suffered a severe cva affecting his left side. He also had a pin point lesion in his brain that affected his ability to do math. So while he could speak, and reason, and remember everything, he could not add two numbers together.
In this case both physical and mental rehabilitation was required with remarkable success. I never cease to be amazed that with the right rehab and the right patient, miracles do happen. And at the very least, functional improvement improves.
