Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel is one of the leading causes of disability in the world. Historically, it has only been treated with surgery. We pioneered the first comprehensive non-surgical treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Carpal Tunnel can be caused by a variety of injuries. The most common is a repetitive stress injury. This means that constant repetition of the wrist and hand can cause CTS. But even a one time blow to your wrist can cause it. Once you get it, it will not go away without treatment. It is a self perpetuating condition.
Our Customized Solution
Surgeons boast about an 85-90% success rate. The problem is that if you are the one or two patients out of ten whom do not succeed, you are left with worse pain and dysfunction than before. You do not care about the other eight good patients. You are the one who has to live with a permanent disability.
Amazingly, we also have an 85-90% success rate with our non-surgical program. The difference is that if you fail in our program you can always have the surgery. If you fail the surgery, you have little left to try.
Many doctors tell you to try therapy first but send you to a surgeon to evaluate your condition and arrange for therapy. The therapy recommended is not necessarily the most affective because that is not what surgeons do. They often let the therapist make up a program.
As an MD, I have spent my entire 25 year career designing carpal tunnel programs. They are the most comprehensive and affective programs available.
Here is a classic example of what I mean. Over and over, I evaluate patients who “failed conservative management” and were referred to surgery. When I investigate, I discover that they were given repetitive hand exercises to “strengthen” their hands. You do not have to be a physician to realize that giving patient repetitive exercises for a repetitive stress injury does not make a lot of sense. Yet, I see it every day. That is what may happen when you see a surgeon or Physical Therapist for a condition outside their area of expertise.
One of my most satisfying feelings is hearing a patient who thought they only had a surgical option tell me they can not believe how well they are doing without surgery. The proper splint, the proper therapy, and the proper protocol on how and when to use the splint makes the difference between success and failure.
